Spring is the Perfect Time for an Amish Horse and Buggy Ride

For most visitors, the idyllic Amish Horse and Buggy Ride entails riding in a closed carriage driven by an Amish man or woman, guiding a clopping horse through the rolling farmland of Lancaster County. There plenty of Amish Horse and Buggy ride operators to help you accomplish your goal.

The top one I’d recommend is Aaron and Jessica’s Buggy Rides located in Bird-in-Hand, PA.  They are sensitive to visitors in post-agricultural society and offer closed-carriage rides, though typically they use Amish Market wagons for tours due to their increased visibility. Pricing ranges from $10 – $22 for adults; $6-$8 for children.  One of my favorite tours they offer is the Cookie run with root beer; a definite favorite for kids.

Another place that offers phenomenal tours is A is for Amish Buggy Rides, Strasburg, PA, located near the Red Caboose Motel. I personally like their Amish Family Tour, where they stop in and visit with Henry, Linda, and the children. On this tour, you get to visit the barn and their wood shop.  They also have an Amish farm tour, where you can watch how an Amish farm works with no electric, see the horses and cows, and learn from the Lapp Family about the way America used to be. Prices range $12 – $30 for adults; $6 – $15 for children under 12.

Abe’s Buggy Rides provides five tours to choose from that pass by a number of Amish farms, an Amish one-room schoolhouse, and other sites dating back to the 1700’s. Their two longest rides visit an Amish home or Mennonite craft store and bake shop.  While their tours are a bit pricier, they are more privatized. Under 3 is free. Adults run from $10 – $45 and children run from $5 – $12.

There are two other places I want to mention. The Amish Buggy Rides at Kitchen Kettle Village in Intercourse, PA.  They offer Dairy farm tours and located near to many Amish shops.  The other one I wanted to mention is Ed’s Buggy Rides located across from Sight and Sound Theatres.
