Lily’s On Main – A Hertzog Homestead Bed and Breakfast Restaurant Review
Ephrata contains many fine restaurants, but the one that I find myself going back to and eating at, the one that I recommend to the guests who come and stay with us, is Lily’s on Main. My love affair with Lily’s, the atmosphere, and the food goes back at least a decade.
One finds Lily’s when venturing into the town of Ephrata with its late 19th century facade. Lily’s sits perched beside a restored 1950s movie theater. My father remembers going to this theater in the 60s during in its heyday. Now with new projection equipment, if one is a movie buff and wants to see the latest movies in a unique experience and atmosphere, then they have to visit the Ephrata Main Theater. Right beside the entrance to the theater is Lily’s on Main. The restaurant and the theater are so named because they are right alongside Main Street in Ephrata.
After entering the front doors, one can either ascend the stairs to the second floor, complete with a real waterfall backdrop, or take the elevator. Sitting in an art deco ambience, one can gaze across the historic town of Ephrata.
Lily’s menu is varied and is what Kristen (my wife) and I have described a type of French Americana cuisine. There really is something here for every pallet. One of my go-to appetizers is the baked tomato bisque soup. It’s made from an inhouse recipe with secret ingredients only known to the chefs and to the owner. It is absolutely delicious, requiring a bowl and not a cup. My next dish is typically the raspberry chicken (pictured below). My wife always ribs me because we raise our own chickens both for meat and eggs; she says I can get chicken any day. But there’s nothing quite like sinking my teeth into Lily’s raspberry chicken with mashed potatoes and a couple of lines of asparagus. It is absolutely delicious.
If you get a chance and he’s not too busy, make a point if you’re visiting to say hi to Steve. Steve is the owner and manager of Lilys as well as the owner and manager of the theater that I mentioned earlier. Make sure you let him know that the Hertzog Homestead says hi. Beyond the manager, his staff is absolutely amazing and incredible. I’ve never had a bad experience there my life. Even at its busiest times, the food comes out in a timely manner.
Every guest who I have sent there has come back ranting and raving about how great the food and experience is. If you have visited Lily’s on Main, I would love to hear your thoughts about this restaurant. If you haven’t, what are you waiting for? Next time you’re in the area, make sure you drop by the Lily’s on Main restaurant in Ephrata, PA. Tell them the Hertzog Homestead Bed and Breakfast sent you.
